Frank,
As for tornadic events on the high end, there's the La Plata F4, the Frostburg F4, the College Park F3 from recent memory, and a historic tornado that also hit La Plata.
Are there any other significant tornadoes in Maryland?
FR: The Oct. 18, 1990 Chartley tornado in Reisterstown comes to mind. It was probably an EF-1, but struck a densely populated area. Damage came to $15 million, with 170 homes damaged or destroyed. Five hundred people were affected, including seven who required hospital treatment. You can peruse past storms, including tornados, by county here in Sterling's not-very-user-friendly tornado database here: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/lwx/Historic_Events/tornadoes/tor-base.htm
There's a slightly more usable collection of storm data here: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/lwx/archive.htm
