Snow ending, but not yet

Sun Photo/Roylance

Looks like we got our snow. Here's the official forecast. They're talking about another surge of snow, particularly in the Baltimore-Washington corridor, before things wind down late this morning. But there doesn't seem to be much more en route, according to the radar loop.

Here are some NWS accumulation reports from around the region. (Note the times.) And more from volunteer observers.

Here is this morning's discussion from Sterling. And here's the Winter Storm Warning, which remains in effect until 2 p.m.

Let us hear from you, too. I'm especially curious about locations along the bay and south of Baltimore, where totals were supposed to reach 10 inches. Anybody seeing that much? We have 3-4 inches on the WeatherDeck. But it's still coming down.

Looking ahead, the forecasters out at Sterling are expecting a low around 13 degrees tonight at BWI Marshall as cold air continues to pour down from Canada behind the departing storm.  The record low for a March 3 in Baltimore is 12 degrees, set in 1925.

More later.

8:00 am. We have 7 inches on our back deck. Woo hoo!

FR: That's very nice, but please tell us where you are. Thanks.

My daughter is in the nursing school at Johns Hopkins and wanted to enjoy snow. She is from Arizona. Good luck Anelis.

I live in Norrisville on the Mason/Dixon Line. White-out conditions here at 8:30. It looked like a miss in the wee hours but it's snowing sideways.

Severna Park about 1/2 mile from Magathoy River we have just shy of 8" on the deck which is protected from the wind, on the car a little less. When I made it to the office which is at BWI there was nearly the same here but it is snowing VERY HARD right now.

FR: Likewise. Very heavy snow ATM on the WeatherDeck in Cockeysville. We have passed 4 inches, adding an inch in the past hour. Big flakes.

I'm in Glen Burnie next to the Old Farm (civil war era farm house) right off of Marley Creek. Its 8:55 AM and I have 6 inches on the deck. Stiil coming down hard. I love it!

4 inches on the deck railing about 8am in Abingdon, and all heavy snow since.

LOTS of schools started with delayed opening, then switched to closed!

So does your snow-shoveling article finally get to run?

FR: The story - written in December 2007 in anticipation of the next shovel-worthy storm - has been posted to the Web site. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/weather/bal-shovel0302,0,3507888.story

We have 5-6 inches here in Kingsville - hard to tell exactly because the wind is all over the place... But it is beautiful. Glad we are finally seeing some decent white covering the ground

Out here on the LES (lower eastern shore-Salisbury) we have about 4 inches and still snowing. Some wind along with intermittent sunshine. Looks like its about over.

Here in Annapolis we have just under 8" on the railing of our deck. Snow has slowed a bit but is still coming down, so that may increase as the morning goes on.

Around 4" in Owings Mills around 6:30 am. After driving to work in Laurel there's around 6-7" here at 9:00am. Took over 2 hours to drive. Roads are sloppy and dangerous. If you're on the fence about staying home or going out...stay home. Even major roads are bad.

FR: Thanks for the roads report.

Here in southern Calvert County, Lusby, I just measured 6.75 inches (it's 10am). Still snowing lightly. Temp is 27.

.

Sorry! I guess I wasn't awake yet. 7.5 inches on the border of Ellicott City/Woodstock. Getting hard to tell what is new snow, and what is blowing snow.

I had to clear about 7-8 inches off my car this morning before driving 30 miles to work. I live in southwestern Columbia, work in Bowie. There seemed to be about half as much in Bowie.

The drive was a white-knuckler. One car merging onto 32 East from 95 spun out but managed to save it and keep going.

I am in Ocala, Florida and we dont have snow but its going down into the lower 30s tonight..maybe the upper 20s....

I am a former Baltimorian now living in FindleyLake, New York ...Western New york and about 9 miles from Erie, PA. Here in Findley Lake we have had 284 inches of snow since Nov. 10th......However, they do keep the road clear in New York.....nothing stops...nothing closes.....

FR: Obviously, in the lake-effect snowbelt, you invest in the equipment and manpower to clear such snow quickly and efficiently, and you go on about your business in the storms because if you didn't you would get nothing done all winter. We would be foolish here to invest in such preparations for snows that would never, or only rarely come. And things shut down here because they can. It just doesn't happen all that often. And it's kinda fun. I have family in Erie, and they would be the last to call snow "fun."
