Don't miss Mars Rover TV special Sunday
Just stumbled across the promo for this Sunday's National Geographic TV special on NASA's twin Mars rovers - Spirit and Opportunity.
The two little explorers landed on Mars in January 2004 on what scientists hoped would be a 90-day mission to photograph and sample the surface of Mars in two widely separated locales. They are not in perfect shape, but they are still working and gathering scientific data almost five years later.
Here's some promotional stuff from National Geographic. Looks like a fine way to spend an hour on Sunday evening. It's at 8 p.m. EST, on the National Geographic Channel.

Speaking of Mars, NASA has just shut down its Phoenix lander (below) after worsening winter weather near the Martian north pole left the craft with too little solar energy to keep itself warm. The weather? Cloudy, dust storms, with a daytime high of minus-50 degrees Fahrenheit, dropping to minus-141 at night.
