Bawlmer snow forecast deepens

After preaching about "an inch," and changeover to mixed precip, and then rain, and no accumulation, the National Weather Service has deepened its forecast for Thursday. Now, the winter weather advisory posted west of the I-95 corridor is talking about 2 to 4 inches of snow during the day Thursday, and an inch or two east of I-95 with a late changeover to freezing rain.

Here's the morning advisory.

Farther west, in Carroll and Frederick and points west, they're looking for 4 to 8 inches in an all-day snowfall. Really. They've posted a winter storm warning out there.

AM UPDATE: Overnight, the NWS has scaled back its accumulation estimates by an inch or two. It's now 1-2 in the advisory area, and 3-6 in the warning area. Here's the map.

School systems may have a hard time with this one, since the snow isn't expected to start in Baltimore until after sunrise. Do we close schools with no snow in the air? Or do we bring everybody to school and send them home early after it starts to accumulate?

The precipitation is on its way. Here's the radar loop. And here's AccuWeather.com's take on it all. And Madman Margusity's.

This will be messy.

If I remember correctly, the last snow we had in early December started off as a potential 'dusting' in the forecasts which later became a sizable 4-6 inches! You don't suppose tomorrow could be a repeat?

I look at www.weather.com for forecasts in Arnold and it says there's also a chance for Snow (and only snow, no rain/snow) on Saturday, despite a high of 39 degrees that day. It does have a low of 23, so I'm not sure if they forecast evening snow or not. Do you happen to know anything about this?

Berkeley County, WV canceled school at 7:30am this morning, after already having a two hour delay. No snow just yet.

On another note. Some models are starting to talk about another storm, late Saturday night and into Sunday.

But tomorrow should be okay for traveling, right? I have a 10 AM flight, my friend has an 8 PM flight... but we're meeting in frigid Dteroit.

You know, it's always the storms that are on this track they can't ever predict... if the low stalls it, we get pounded, if the high moves in, it's just rain... I bought my bread, and eggs... I won't discuss my TP... The more "They" down play it, the more worried I get...

Frank, so when does the 'physiology of snow shoveling' story run?

FR: When there's enough to shovel. But we think the fact that the story exists, in the form of electrons in The Sun's computer system, is what's keeping the snow away this winter. It may hold until next winter.

Quick! Run to the Giant! Toilet paper and champagne!! (Just the basic necessities)

Great snow forecasts on The Ski Channel. For anyone who may be interested.
